The Liberian Education Trust - Monrovia

After three years of existence, the Liberian Education Trust-Monrovia, which was launched by President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf on Thursday, August 17, 2006 in a gala ceremony at the Monrovia City Hall, is now at a critical Juncture. on the one hand, LET is proudly looking back at its achievements and on the other hand, LET is looking forward to another three years of existence, having strategically determined that LET should continue for at least another three years.

Through its mandate of building 50 schools, Reaching 500 Teachers through short-term programs and providing scholarships to 5000 Girls/Women in formal schools and women in literacy programs, LET has reached every county in Liberia through construction, literacy or scholarships. LET has been able to work through Implementing Partners through a Re-Granting Process.

Additionally, LET has implemented a scholarship program for 100 girls in the Southeast originally with funding from WFP’s Walk the World 2007 Donation to LET. LET has done a scholarship program for 200 impoverished and high achieving girls at the F-SHAM School of Girls with support from PLAN Liberia. LET has also entered a partnership with the Research Triangle Institute (RTI), as a sub-contractor to an Early Grade Reading Assessment EGRA Plus research being done by RTI for the Ministry of Education. LET has also done a pilot mini grant program that targeted schools with vulnerable children, with support from the WFP’s donation.
