Liberia formalizes ties with Australia…
Australia and Liberia have formalized diplomatic ties with the signing of a Joint Communiqué on the establishment of diplomatic relations at Ambassadorial level at the Permanent Mission of Liberia to the United Nations in New York.
According to a Foreign Ministry release, Ambassador Nathaniel Barnes signed on behalf of the Government of Liberia, while the Permanent Representative of Australia to the United Nations, Ambassador Robert Hill, signed on behalf of his Government.
The signing of the communiqué will develop between the two states in political, economic, social, humanitarian and other fields, in accordance with the principles and norms as enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations.
Prior to the signing of the Joint Communiqué, Ambassador Barnes and Hill had a tête-à-tête and briefly discussed a follow-up strategy of bilateral talks held on September 23rd, between President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf and the Prime Minister of Australia, Kevin Rudd in New York.
