President Sirleaf tours MaritimeRescueCoordinatorCenter…



President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf Monday toured the future premises of the Maritime Rescue Coordination Center (MRCC) for West Africa, on BushrodIsland.



At an International Maritime Organization Conference in Florence. Italy in 2000. Liberia was selected to host the MRCC for Ghana, Sierra Leone, Guinea and Ivory Coast.



A release says, President Johnson-Sirleaf expressed the hope, that the project will be completed shortly.



Under the MRCC program, the Ministry of Defense and the Bureau of Maritime will collaborate to promptly and efficiently execute the search and rescue of people in distress at sea.



Meanwhile, President Sirleaf, and Secretary General of the International Maritime Organization, Efthimios Mitropoulos, are expected to formally launch the MRCC in April of next year.
