WHO and ARCC pronounce Liberia Polio Free…..
The World Health Organization (WHO) and the African Regional Committee on Certification (ARCC) have declared Liberia Polio free.
Speaking Tuesday at the Health Ministry in Monrovia, when he officially presented the Polio Free Certificate to Health Minister, Dr. Walter Gwenigale, Former Health Minister, Dr. Peter Coleman, as Chairman of the Certification Committee, said Liberia was given the certificate after sixteen rounds of high level polio immunization of children under five years.
Dr. Coleman said WHO and ARCC also request Liberia to continuously qualify as a Polio Free Country and urged it to keep the percentage of Immunization above eighty percent.
Meanwhile, Health Minister, Dr. Walter Gwenigale thanked international donor agencies including, Polio Plus, USAID, UNICEF, WHO-Liberia, Rotary International, Ambassador Julie Endee and the Former Health Minister for their support in making Liberia Polio free.
