US Govt. pledges support to National Elections Commission…
United States Ambassador, Linda Thomas Greenfield says, the United States Government will continue to support the National Elections Commission in upholding the tenants of democracy by conducting free, fair and transparent elections.

According to a release from the National Elections Commission, Ambassador Greenfield was speaking when she paid a familiarization visit to the commission over the weekend.

Ambassador Greenfield was accompanied by the Political Officer at the US Embassy, Kristen Graver and the Infrastructure Advisor to the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), Anthony Carvalhu.

The United States Government, the release stated has rendered numerous supports to NEC, through the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES) with funding from USAID and democratic Support groups from the United States.

During the visit, the American envoy was briefed on major activities the Commission has undertaken since the conduct of the 2005 Presidential and General elections.
