GAC completes Central Bank alleged audit - Feb 27, 2010


General Auditing Commission completes Central Bank alleged audit…
The General Auditing Commission (GAC) says, it has concluded a forensic audit in the alleged one million, one hundred seventy one thousand, seven hundred and fifty one United States dollars transfer at the Central Bank.
The Money was allegedly transferred from the Central Bank of Liberia to ECOBANK Liberia Limited.
A GAC release said, copies of the audit report has been submitted to the National Legislature and President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf.
The transaction, according to the audit report was completed May 6, 2009, and that some employees of the Banking Department of the CBL dubiously transferred the amount from government consolidated account.
The release said the money was transferred from account number 022053000035 to ECOBANK current account number of 0221040000400 at the CBL and subsequently transferred by ECOBANK to its customer's saving account number 10913330622014.
The GAC release also said the signatures of President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf and those allegedly involved in the transfer were forged and that the audit established the transaction expose the week banking regulatory environment at the CBL
