Amagi feeds new 24/7 weather information from AccuWeather to Roku channel

AccuWeather, the most accurate weather source in the world, partnered with Amagi to launch its 24/7 linear channel, AccuWeather NOW, and create a differentiated channel offering for distribution to The Roku Channel in the United States

AccuWeather is a recognized leader in weather forecasting data and broadcasting across a wide range of multimedia platforms. It serves over 1.5 billion people in the US and around the world every day to help them plan their lives and get the most out of their day through digital media properties, such as and mobile, as well as radio, television, newspapers, digital home entertainment, and the 24/7 AccuWeather Network channel and, most recently, the AccuWeather NOW streaming service.

The new linear live channel leverages the Amagi CLOUDPORT cloud streaming service with advanced graphics capabilities and powerful HTML5 graphics rendering. Additionally, Amagi supports AccuWeather with 24/7 live streaming and monitoring; advertising masking in accordance with The Roku Channel requirements; management of delivery, EPG and playlist, and ad insertion on the server side.

“For AccuWeather NOW, it was important that we create a unique branding and graphic presentation,” says Sarah Katt, Executive Director, AccuWeather Network. “We also had to adapt our content to meet the demands of The Roku Channel and other FAST platforms. Amagi not only delivered flawlessly on both points, but did so within a very tight deadline. As more FAST platforms launch into AccuWeather, we are now well positioned to bring the channel to other FAST platforms in the coming months. “

Amagi is also distributing AccuWeather NOW on other FAST platforms such as XUMO and Plex, with more in the works. AccuWeather NOW features a new HTML5 ticker with real-time weather information for dozens of US cities, powered by AccuWeather’s proprietary weather data API.

“This is a prime example of Amagi’s ability to deliver custom HTML5 graphics integrated with an API solution to relay external data in real time,” said Srinivasan KA, co-founder, Amagi. “We were able to help AccuWeather launch its channel in strict compliance with The Roku Channel’s ad load, delivery and EPG requirements, and monetize content through targeted ad inserts. “

Amagi provides a complete suite of solutions for the creation, distribution and monetization of content. The company also has a state-of-the-art cloud broadcast operations center that can support over 1,000 live linear channels. Amagi customers include ABS-CBN, A + E Networks UK, beIN Sports, CuriosityStream, Discovery Networks, Fox Networks, Fremantle, NBCUniversal, Tastemade, Tegna, USA Today, Vice Media and Warner Media, among others.
