Avril Lavigne is working on a film adaptation of her hit song ‘Sk8er Boi’.

The 37-year-old singer has announced plans to take her 2002 single – which featured on her debut album “Let Go” – and turn it into a successful love story as she contemplates the song’s 20th anniversary. next year.

Appearing on iHeartRadio’s ‘She Is The Voice’ podcast, she said, “Recently, as the 20th anniversary approached, a lot of people asked me to play this song on TV shows, so it’s coming back without stop and people will always refer to me.

“And so, I’m actually going to turn this song into a movie and take it to the next level.”

The song tells the story of a teenage girl who turns down a skateboarder because her friends don’t approve of her, despite having secret feelings for him.

Years later, she regrets her decision watching him perform on MTV.

Although Avril – who is set to go on a world tour in 2022 to support her highly anticipated seventh studio album – did not give more details on a potential big screen adaptation, she did reflect on the inspiration behind the ‘pop rock anthem.

She added, “You know how it was in high school, you have all the different groups and cliques, and there’s like the skaters, the preps and the jocks.

“It’s a bit like a missed opportunity in love.

“The skateboarder boy is in love with the preppy girl and she’s too cool for him, but in five years she will be feeding the baby and she’s on her own and she would have liked to follow her heart and not try to live up to expectations. of the society. “

Meanwhile, this isn’t the first time there has been talk of turning the runway into a movie, as Paramount Pictures reportedly considered the possibility as early as 2003.
