It has been a memorable week in Mandalay Bay. After Cirque du Soleil reopened “Michael Jackson A”Cheered by a sold-out crowd on August 19, the House of Blues the return of a longtime resident to the headliner Carlos santana Wednesday evening. His funk, jazz and fluid rock concert, “An Intimate Evening with Santana: Greatest Hits Live”, continues August 27-29 and September 1-4 before a short break; he is coming back in november.
Three more huge openings and re-openings are yet to come this week. Circus favorite “The Beatles love itReturns to the Mirage this evening. The dancing evening “Illuminate”Is finally making its Las Vegas Strip debut tonight at the STRAT Theater. And “Magic Mike Live”Makes his comeback on Friday evening in his new home in Sahara Las Vegas. The next blockbuster will arrive will be Donny Osmondfirst solo residency show in Las Vegas, opening at Harrah’s on August 31.
Lady GagaThe Park Theater comeback isn’t the only new show announced this week. Comedian and actor Marlon Wayans will be doing a stand-up at the M Resort pavilion on November 13; Recording artist Josh Turner will perform at the Venetian Theater on December 4; and new regular Wynn Jim gaffigan is back for more laughs inside Encore Theater with two shows on December 8th.
A brand new piano bar and lounge dedicated to showcasing great local talent is slated to open on Monday, August 30 in the former Sonny’s Saloon space just off the Strip on Sammy Davis Jr. Drive. Star Piano Cocktail Lounge was conceptualized by the nightlife impresario Edouard Cordoba, whose Garden quickly became one of Las Vegas’ most popular gay bars. Star will bring Rat Pack era vibes and finely crafted cocktails, but live music will be in the spotlight as hosted by Chris Lash. Labor Day weekend programming will include the Moonshiners, Ruby lewisand Josh Strickland.
Opera Las Vegas will launch its 22nd season from October 1-3 at Space with “Gatsby’s ghosts, A chamber opera by composer Evan Mack and librettist Joshua McGuire. The performance is a journey into the marriage of Zelda and F. Scott Fitzgerald in 1924 as the latter struggles to complete “The Great Gatsby”. The four-person cast includes Kimberly Gratland James, Athena Mertes, Kayla Wilkens and Rob McGinness, under the direction of Joshua Horsch. Tickets are priced at $ 25 and $ 45 and more information is available on operalasvegas.com.
