Terry Crews says Will Smith’s punishment for hitting Chris Rock at the Oscars was “over the top”.
The 53-year-old actor is close friends with the two stars and admitted he had done much ‘worse than Will’ in the past after the ‘King Richard’ star hit out at comedian Chris for making a comment about the shaved head of his wife Jada Pinkett Smith. at the awards ceremony last month.
Will was subsequently banned from the Oscars for 10 years, and the former footballer believes “the punishment didn’t fit the crime”.
He told The Hollywood Reporter: “Will Smith and Chris Rock are both very dear friends of mine – I love them both as brothers, but there was a time in my life when I was Will Smith at that time. time and let me tell you, I did worse than Will.
“Like people were like, ‘What in the world are you doing?’ My wife even had to say, ‘You have to promise me you’ll never leave like this. You didn’t have to lift that man up and put him on his head, on the concrete.’
Terry also praised Chris for his composure after being punched.
He continued: “(It was) exaggerated, the punishment did not fit the crime. I am very grateful to Chris, but I also understand Will. I am not [one] to demonize Will at all because I was there.
Terry also thinks Chris “saved Hollywood” by not fighting back.
He added, “Because if there had been a fight on that stage, I don’t know if Hollywood would have gotten the respect again, you know? It’s hard to even imagine what would have happened.”
